Early ML-33 Oak Rocking Chair with Carvings

By Hans Wegner for Mikael Laursen

Denmark, 1940s
Hans Wegner designed this oak rocking chair, model ML-33, for manufacturer Mikael Laursen. The rare rocker, the first that Wegner designed, showcases his elegant approach to modern design, with Danish tradition suggested by the carvings of leaves and vines on the arms and back. The left arm has been repaired at one point (see image 10), but the chair is completely solid.
