Marble-Topped Tawi Wood Sideboard

By Edward Wormley for Dunbar

United States, 1950s
In this extraordinary sideboard or buffet, Dunbar model 5464, Edward Wormley set staggered panels of tawi wood into an ebonized mahogany frame topped with a slab of Portuguese marble. The shallower drawer at top left has seven felt-lined divisions. To the right, a tambour door conceals a large storage area. Below left a hinged door with key secures another storage space and offers two shelves for glasses. At center is a second drawer. On the bottom, a wide third drawer contains a removable linen tray. All drawers feature double-ringed brass pulls and inset brass handles decorate the sides.
