Pierre Cardin Black Lacquer and Chrome Sideboard

By Willy Rizzo for Sabot

Italy, 1970s
Designed by Willy Rizzo for Pierre Cardin in 1971 at the pinnacle of the fashion designer's fame and manufactured by the Italian company Sabot, this black lacquer sideboard is all sleek modernism. The case is edged at the front with beveled strips of chrome and three large chrome circles serve as the pulls for three deep drawers and three doors. The outer doors open onto storage with an adjustable Formica shelf and the middle door drops down to reveal a large space perfect for a bar. This center area has an integrated light, but is wired for a European connection.
