Rosewood Rolltop Desk/Cabinet, Model 804

By Gianfranco Frattini for Bernini

Italy, 1960s
Gianfranco Frattini designed this gorgeous rosewood rolltop desk, model 804, for Bernini in the early 1960s. What appears to be a compact chest of ten drawers with chrome pulls transforms into a desk when the concealed leather-covered top is pulled forward.

As the rolltop mechanism glides inward a host of storage spaces is revealed: two shallow but wide drawers at front and eight drawers of various sizes at back, plus a divided tray. The case sits on sturdy legs joined by an aluminum base and thick glass protects the rolltop at the rear. The desk is finished on the back with two divided shelves and thus can be placed freestanding.

This rare limited edition is signed and numbered 051/100.
