United States, 1960s
Upholstered in a soft textile in vibrant red, these four birch armchairs are classic modernist bentwood produced by Thonet in the early 1960s. Three chairs, attributed to Joe Atkinson, sport solid seat backs and abbreviated armrests that emerge from the hairpin back legs. The fourth chair features dynamically canted legs that flow into the continuous armrests. Dimensions below are for the three. The chair with continuous arms is 24.25 in. D x 23.25 in. W x 31 in. H; the seat height is 19 in.
We also have a corresponding armchair with padded armrests.
