Walnut Side Table with Planters

By George Nelson for Herman Miller

United States, 1950s
George Nelson designed this uniquely functional mid-century modern side table, model 4745, for Herman Miller. Constructed of walnut with ebonized block legs, it houses two square copper planting boxes with wooden covers for flexible arrangements; a glass top over a deep shelf creates a continuous top surface. The case has a large drawer with a chrome J pull at one end and more open shelving under the planters at the other. Maker's label inside drawer.
