United States, 1975
This abstract assemblage is the work of Norman Ives (1923–1978). An artist and graphic designer based in New Haven, he was also a publisher of Fine portfolios of many of the century’s top modernist artists.
Placed horizontally and diagonally, blocks of wood painted orange, blue, white, and cream create a rhythmic but nonrepeating sequence. The assemblage is set within an aluminium frame and inscribed on back: To Bill, Dec. 7, 1975, Norman Ives.
