Ethiopia, Early 20th Century
This African chair was hand carved from a single tree trunk. Chairs of this type were used by highland Ethiopians, largely from the highest class. This chair was likely carved sometime in the early- to mid-twentieth century. The crack in the seat is a common occurrence for pieces of this type. This chair has a wonderful sculptural presence and is structurally sound and sturdy.
